Los Saicos is a Peruvian group that has come to be considered the first punk rock band ever. They started playing in 1964, when Johnny Rotten was still a child. Los Saicos were one of the most influential bands from Peru and Latin America and they were pioneers in singing their lyrics in Spanish.  Now, after performing live only in two occasions since they stopped playing in 1966,  Los Saicos are going to show up in Buenos Aires on December 3rd and 4th at Niceto Club.

Erwin Flores, Pancho Guevara, and César Castrillón were part of Los Cometas de Lince, a “rock and roll gang” from the Peruvian city Lince.  One day they decided to create their own band along with the guitar player Rolando Carpio and history was made. Some media at the time said the original name of the group was Los Sadicos (The Sadists) and that they change their name just to avoid any future trouble, in spite of that Erwin Flores once said that “being a Saico meant  being fearless”.

“Demolición,” the band’s first single, was a huge success and by 1965 Los Saicos were considered the best new band from Peru. Later that year they hosted their own TV show called “El Show de los Saicos” (The Saicos’ show). Although they were playing uncountable gigs across the country and their songs were a sensation, in 1966 the band decided to stop playing because they said that they wanted to have a normal and peaceful life.

In 2010, 45 years after their last live show and after Rolando Carpio’s death, Erwin Flores, César Castrillón and Pancho Guevara got together in a concert in Lima where they played some of their most popular songs.  A few months later they performed in Benidorm, Spain, during the Funtastic Festival. It was the first time ever that Los Saicos played outside Peru.

Now, after more than 50 years of history, Los Saicos are back!
